About The Programme
Skate Excellence is a team of professionals with extensive knowledge and experience from skating and leisure services. Our team is on hand to support you in delivering and receiving excellence in skating with a strong accent on fun. The Skate Excellence program is taught over 8 stages and utilises patented colour coordinated boot covers and different coloured gloves (Red is for the Right hand and Blue is for the Left hand). The colours make it easier for the skater to remember their right from their left hand and also assists the coach, as mistakes are clearly highlighted and visible. The Learn to skate programme teaches the fundamentals of skating.
And caters for all ages abilities and different learning styles.

Skate excellence is a consecutive learning programs that is renewable every 6 weeks
Each lesson consists of a 30 minute group structured lesson the maximum class size is 15 pupils per coach.

A New Learner Should

  • Feel the movement and freedom that skating can give
  • Feel stable so as to build confidence and achieve more repetitions
  • See that progression is achievable
  • Have consistency of coaching, with all skating coaches using the same terminology and structure

The Training Aids

  • The Skate excellence programme works in conjunction with the colour coordinated boot covers and the different coloured gloves
  • The colours and shapes used in the programme make it easier for the skater to take responsibility for their own learning, as they will become more aware of how their body moves

What To Expect?

Once you have arrived at the chosen center you will be greeted by one of our receptionists, who will check you in and give you your skate excellence boot covers. Please note Boot covers must be put on prior to your skates R is for the right foot and L is for the left foot

You will be directed to skate hire where you will receive you ice skates in exchange for you shoes
Your skates should be a snug fit; skates that are too big will give less support and cause blisters. The laces should be pulled tightly at the foot area, but not too tight to allow for some ankle flexion

Once you’ve put your skates on
Pull the boot covers down over the boots making sure red part is on the toes and the blue part are the heels Now the gloves The Red is for right hand and blue is for left hand

You’re now all set for your lesson!

Make your way to the ice your coach will be waiting to greet you
An announcement is made when the warm up is about to begin
All skaters will get together for the group warm up.

The Lesson Plan

The Warm Up
The warm up is at the beginning of every lesson. Skaters of all levels participate, one or more coaches lead the warm up, and demonstrate the instructions from the audio, whilst the other coaches observe and correct the students.
Planters Week
Planters are used to introduce new skills ahead of the skater’s ability. They are performed statically so that the skater can familiarise themselves with the new movement patterns before progressing.
The Skaters Gym
An introduction to getting the skater fit for the sport at a fundamental stage. The sport specific skating exercises will build strength within the skater’s range of movement;
The Skaters Barre
The Skaters Barre exercises create awareness of the movements that occur around the hip joints and the muscles used. This has been simplified by the use of the COLOURED training aids.
The Award Ceremony
Is the way we at celebrate the achievements you have made the award.
Once the names have been called out the skaters will participate in a lap of honour which will complete the ceremony.
